Blatnice pod Svatým Antonínkem
In 1604, John Amos Comenius inherited a vineyard from his father in Blatnice pod sv. Antonínkem on the Plachty vineyard tract. If he saw how the winemaking craft is carried on here today, he would be pleased.
A fertile region of grapevines, dominated since ancient times by the last promontory of the White Carpathians - Antonínský hill - a place of world-famous pilgrimages. The first written mention of Blatnice pod Sv. Antonínkem dates back to 1046 from the founding charter of the Stará Boleslav chapter.
Blatnice pod Svatým Antonínkem was part of the Kunovice estate and later the Olomouc bishopric. In that year, it belonged to Oldřich of Hradec. Blatnice wine was imported all the way to Prague as early as the late 13th and early 14th centuries. The establishment of vineyards in the village also dates back to this period. By the second half of the 14th century, the village belonged to the Ostroh estate.
Climatic conditions and soil composition enable the development of viticulture, which was concentrated in wine cellars whose history dates back to the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The village has preserved folk traditions and customs such as feasts and, above all, pilgrimages on St. Anthony's hill, which were a frequent subject for the painter Joža Úprka.
